David O. Russell Drops out of ‘Nailed’

Posted by Jon Wiener on July 14, 2010

There aren’t many non-Die Hard movies that I am willing to call genius, but David O. Russell certainly gives John McClane a run for his money.  After writing and directing Spanking the Monkey, Flirting With Disaster, Three Kings and I Heart Huckabees, you would think that Russell would be wading in the top echelon of Hollywood glamor.  Rather, he seems to always find himself battling with somebody along the production process.  I mean, how could we forget the Huckabees throw-down with Lily Tomlin?

News broke this morning that Russell had a recent disagreement with execs Ronald Tutor and David Bergstein due to numerous delays over the past two years on the set of Nailed, the story of a waitress (Jessica Biel) who is shot in the head with a nail gun.  After a trip to DC to fight for better health care, she meets a congressman (Jake Gyllenhaal) and the rest is magic.

Now that Russell has dropped out, there is an available directing job.  It should be noted, however, that the split was amicable and all parties are understanding of the situation.  At least Russell has other projects in the works, such as The Figher and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.
