As a weathered audience member at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in both NYC and LA, I am quite familiar with the brilliance of Matt Walsh (9th place runner-up in Louis CK look-alike contest). The UCB sketch show that graced the small screen (Comedy Central) many years ago set a standard for bizarre comedy that has influenced thousands of young entertainers.
Walsh, who you may also remember from tons of movies – most recently in Cyrus, is set to direct High Road, an improvised feature that Walsh co-”wrote” with screen rookie, Josh Weiner. I imagine that the writing is more of an outline, much like Curb Your Enthusiasm. Walsh is no stranger to the format, as his FX comedy Players follows the same structure.
Also involved in High Road are notable performers, such as Rob Riggle (The Daily Show) , Horatio Sanz (SNL, Boat Trip), Andrew Daly (Eastbound and Down), Kyle Gass (Tenacious D), and Jo Lo Truglio (The State, Superbad).
The plot is your classic tale of “weed dealer is on the run with a wily 16 year-old”, following the tradition of Citizen Kane, On the Waterfront and The Little Mermaid.
