It’s been a long hiatus since we last saw our favorite serial killer, Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall), kneeling aside the bloody bathtub that contained his wife, Rita (Julie Benz). During this time, Hall fell victim to Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a form of cancer that attacks blood cells. Fortunately for Hall, his fans, and his wife/co-star (Jennifer Carpenter), Hall went into remission and then was announced to be fully cured. Without missing a beat, Hall went back to work and will undoubtedly give the world another amazing season of Dexter and hopefully many other shows in the future.
In the season premiere of Dexter, Hall revisits a location his character has never before seen: a funeral home. We all know one of Hall’s other famous characters that more or less lived in a funeral home, but such is not the case for Dexter Morgan, whose only knowledge for the afterlife comes in a garbage bag, dumped off the coast of Florida. During this episode, Dexter faces the hard truths that come with losing a loved one, and he doesn’t have the ghost-guidance of his dead father to advise him.
With the FBI on his tail and a mother-less family, Dexter handles the situation the only way he knows how: by murdering an asshole. Luckily for Dex, this triggers an appearance from his father, who tells him to be the man he has become: an actual human, a father.
